All the photos you take with your smartphone end up in your device's photo library. It's easy for a curious pair of eyes to see images you don't want them to see.Maybe you have some snapshots of confidential information, gift ideas for a loved one, or endless memes you want to remove from your main photo roll.Whatever the reason, it's easy to hide photos from your gallery.

Next, we'll show you how to hide photos on Android:

Native tool to hide photos

Some major phone makers have built-in privacy tools that can help you hide pictures on Android.Let's look at a few examples:

Samsung

If you have a Samsung phone running Android Nougat 7.0 or above, you can take advantage of Samsung's Safe Folder feature. It lets you keep private files, images, and even apps in a separate password-protected area.

If you are setting up Secure Folder for the first time, go to Settings > Biometrics & Security > Secure Folder. You will need to log in with your Samsung account.

After logging in, your device will prompt you to choose your preferred locking method.Once done, Secure Folder can be accessed from the app drawer. To hide photos in Safe Folder, open the app and tap Add File.

LG

If you're using an LG device, the process for hiding pictures on Android is slightly different.

This time, start by going to Settings > Biometrics & Security > Content Lock. The phone will ask you to secure the feature with a PIN, password or fingerprint scan. Now, go to your phone's default gallery app.Select all the photos you want to hide, then click Menu > More > Lock. You can also lock entire folders of photos if you want.

When you click Lock, the photo/folder will disappear from the library. To view them, navigate to Menu > Show Locked Files.Enter your security credentials and the photo will reappear.

Hide photos from gallery using file manager

If your phone doesn't have a built-in solution, don't despair. You still have options available, but the process is slightly more complicated.

You can perform some tricks with a file manager, or you can rely on third-party tools that specialize in hiding content. Some third-party gallery apps also have this feature.Let's first take a look at how to use the file manager to hide files.

Create new folder

Before you start, you'll need a high-quality file manager installed on your phone. Then, you need to create a new folder starting with a period (for example, .PrivateFiles or .Secret).

Next, move all the photos you want to hide into the newly created folder. The way to do this varies by app, but usually long-pressing on the file you want to move will give you an option.

Any files you relocate will no longer appear in the Gallery app.Without going into too much detail, this is because any folder that starts with a period will not be scanned by the phone software.

Create a ".nomedia" file

If you have hundreds of photos to hide, it's not realistic to move them manually.Instead, it's easier to create a .nomedia file in the folder you want to hide.

When your phone sees a .nomedia file in a folder, it won't load the contents of that folder when scanning your directory.

To create this file, you still need a third-party file manager application.Use it to navigate to the folder you want to hide and create a new file in that directory called .nomedia (make sure to include the period). The file doesn't need to have any content, the filename is the important part.

It's important to note that while both methods hide the contents of your native photo library, the images will still be visible in any file manager.Because they are not password protected.

Third-party apps that hide pictures on Android

If the various steps above are too tedious for you, then you might consider using a third-party app that specializes in hiding photos. Here are three of the best:
